Hurricane-force bora winds have forced the closure of a section of the A1 motorway and the Pag Bridge, while numerous traffic restrictions are in place across Croatia, the Croatian Auto Club (HAK) reported on Tuesday.

The A1 is completely closed between the Sveti Rok and Posedarje junctions due to the strong wind. Drivers travelling by car are advised to take a detour via the Zadar east junction, following state road DC27 through Karin and Obrovac to Gračac, and then DC50 to the Sveti Rok junction. All other vehicles must use an alternative route via the Benkovac junction, taking DC59 towards Kistanje, then DC1 through Knin and Gračac, and finally DC50 to Sveti Rok.

The state road Maslenica – Zaton Obrovački (DC54), the Adriatic coastal road (DC8) between Senj and Sveta Marija Magdalena, and the Pag Bridge (DC106) are also closed to all traffic. On the A6 motorway between Kikovica and Delnice, only cars are allowed; other vehicles must use state road DC3 through Gorski Kotar. Similarly, only cars may use state road DC27 between Gračac and Donji Karin and the Omiš bypass (DC553).

On the Adriatic coastal road between Bakar and Novi Vinodolski, state road DC99 between Križišće and the Križišće junction, and the local road Kraljevica – Križišće, double-decker buses, vehicles with trailers, and motorcycles are banned. The ban extends to delivery vans and vehicles with covered cargo areas on the section between Novi Vinodolski and Senj and on the A7 motorway between Rijeka east and Šmrika junctions.

HAK warns that roads are wet and slippery in many parts of the country, with a risk of rockfalls. Drivers are urged to adjust their speed and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.

Additional traffic disruptions are also reported: a broken-down vehicle in the Mala Kapela tunnel on the A1 is causing delays, and an accident on the A4 between Novi Marof and Breznički Hum has reduced traffic to one lane. Ongoing roadworks on the A1 near Sveti Rok and between Bisko and Split are also affecting travel until December.
